🎓 I Graduated! My Thesis on Vehicle Model Mix Availability
How I used AI and forecasting models to optimize car dealership inventory
After months of research, hundreds of hours of work, and more coffee than I care to count, I’ve finally submitted my Master’s thesis and graduated! This blog post is my way of capturing the journey part celebration, part personal memory, and part “behind the scenes” of what I’ve been working on.
🚗 My Thesis in Plain English
Title: Providing the Right Vehicle Model Mix Availability in the Right Location
It sounds fancy, but here’s what it really means: How can car dealerships always have the right cars, in the right place, at the right time so customers get what they want without waiting months?
📊 How I Solved the Problem
I built a recommendation system that helps dealerships decide which cars to order based on:
- Past sales data (what people bought before)
- Current stock (what’s sitting unsold)
- Customer preferences (what people are asking for)
I used forecasting techniques like:
- Holt-Winters & ARIMA — time series methods for seasonal patterns
- Ensemble learning — combining models to pick the most accurate one
The result? The system could predict demand with up to 98% accuracy meaning dealerships could stock smarter, sell faster, and reduce unwanted cars.
🚀 Why It Matters
Cars are a big, emotional purchase. When customers walk into a dealership, they want their car, not a “close enough” option.
Getting inventory right means:
- ✅ Happier customers
- ✅ More sales
- ✅ Less wasted stock
- ✅ Better adaptability to market changes
☕ The Reality Behind the Work
It wasn’t always smooth sailing. There were nights when my code refused to cooperate and days when I felt like I was swimming in spreadsheets. But then there were moments when the data aligned perfectly, the charts told a clear story, and I thought, This might actually work.
💬 Looking Back
Finishing this thesis feels like crossing a marathon finish line tired, a little dazed, but incredibly proud. This isn’t just a research project to me; it’s a reminder of persistence, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of seeing an idea turn into something real.
Now, it’s time for the next adventure. 🚗✨
